“I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care plan.” – Barack Obama, June 30, 2003
“I have not said that I was a single payer supporter.” – Barack Obama, August 11, 2009
Now Mr. President, all of us have heard ad nauseam how smart and nuanced you are, so I’m sure I’m maliciously omitting some sort of hyper-intellectualized context here, in which case I should be reported promptly to flag@whitehouse.gov. (Video here, by the way.)
(By the way, we are at war with Eastasia. We have always been at war with Eastasia.)
Speaking of someone who should be reported, did you see that editorial that CNN had up today? Read Five Freedoms You’d Lose in Health Care Reform. Go quickly. I figure someone must have sneaked it out there, and as soon as the unorthodoxy is detected, it shall be dealt with mercilessly. The author, a brave person named Shawn Tully, has the gall to say (on the idea of keeping your existing plan):
This is the freedom that the President keeps emphasizing. Yet the bills appear to say otherwise.
Finally, your efforts—you know, the current manifestation of that pesky little free speech/redress of grievances thing—are showing in Rasmussen polling. Opposition to the plan is now at 53%, with support at just 42%. That’s a new low (he said, proudly). Strong opposition to the plan is at 44%, with strong support for the plan at only 26%.
Proponents of liberty and common sense: don’t let up for one second. Democrats: it’s working! Push harder!

I’m stunned. Stunned, I tell you. If I hadn’t seen the CNN tag myself, I’d never have believed it.
Will bad poll numbers be able to overcome the strongarm tactics of Congressional party leaders? I can only hope.
Okay, I am still laughing at the President’s brilliant statement today on how private companies are able to complete so well with the public Postal option. “It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.”
Um. Dude.
kemtee: It’s something, isn’t it? For such language to show itself on CNN.com might really be a turning point.
’seester: It’s a scream. I like the little pocket of WTF he experiences right after he says it, too.
